Earlier this year I built my first full cms website which also included a WordPress news system and a shop. I learnt so much from doing this project as I had to create my own admin area to update pages, pictures and link it in with a shop and WordPress.

I also learnt that a client has many different meaning’s for the word “Dynamic”.

I created a nice, clean and crisp design for the client and right at the end the client said the site was not “Dynamic” enough just before I went away. By dynamic I thought the client meant that they wanted the site to be more CMS editable which it was, but they actually meant they wanted the site to move more. To make the site “move more” I used jquery to make the header and the part on the right move. You can view the current website here.

I am still unsure which is my favourite version, I still love the start I did for the first website. I always love something new within working in the design and dealing with new clients, this is why I love design!

Channel 4 Japan Ident

I loved the series of ident’s Channel 4 did, my favourite of course was the Japan ident which reminds me so much of my travels with the Pachinko parlours and the neon lights of Shinjuku.

I was trying to work out the area’s where it was filmed, and with some help I found one of the signs was for Shinjuku Niimaru which are a group of restaurants in the Shinjuku/Kabukicho area . I hope next time to try do a few videos in Japan.

Airline Livery (Advertising)

I’ve always admired airline livery, I love how something simple can be used to show a brand from the air and around the world on an airplane. I love the Swiss logo and livery, I also love the way big brands have used aircraft for advertising such as Pepsi, The Simpsons and Seaworld.

ANA have just launched a Gundam painted Boeing 777 after teaming up with Bandai Namco to mark the 30th anniversary of Gunpla in Japan.

Ninokuni: Another World, Ghibli’s & Level 5′s Game

Creator of the massively popular Professor Layton, Level 5 teamed up with Studio Ghibli to create a game for the DS and now the PS3 called Ninokuni: Another World!

Developed for the DS, Ninokuni: The Another World is a role playing game with all the visual bells and whistles of a Studio Ghibli film.

The game looks awesome!

Hayaku: A Time Lapse Journey Through Japan

A great time lapse video by Brad Kremer called “Hayaku: A Time Lapse Journey Through Japan”. A brilliant video taken with a Canon 5DMKII in many locations around Japan in the summer of 2009. Some of the location include Tokyo, Matsuyama, Imabari, Nagano, Gifu, and Ishizushisan.

So beautiful.

Interactive Colour Sensitive Billboard by IBM

This is such a genius idea by IBM, a billboard which can detect the colour of each persons clothing and react. Could open so many possibilities some day, such as adverts based on a persons mood?

My Finished Sleeve

I finally got my oriental inspired sleeve finished back in March, when I got the final part done by Hori-Hiro in Japan. I’ve had three artist’s for my sleeve, I honestly thought I would never have got it finished.

After many hours under the needle, around 30 I think? Over three years, here’s the finished tattoo.

My inspiration for my tattoo was the traditional Japanese style (oriental), but I wanted my own take on the tattoo to show more about me.

I have: A humming bird, four butterflies (one tiger), cherry blossom, a lotus and a koi fish.

I will try explain the meanings as best as I can, but I may be wrong .

Humming Bird – Lively, Humble, Energetic, Importance
Butterflies – To me they grow from something ugly (a caterpillar) into a beautiful butterfly.
Tiger – Courage, strength and also my Chinese Zodiac sign (tiger 虎 1986).
Lotus – Starts off at the bottom of the pond and eventually blossoms at the top
Koi – Koi’s have many meanings, myn is a single koi swimming up the stream meaning to grow up
Cherry Blossom – The transcience of life

Hiro – Hori-Hiro Tattoo, Koriyama, Japan – The bottom part of my sleeve, waves koi and red cherry blossom
